Aberdeenshire, Sandend In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Sandend in Aberdeenshire was a thriving fishing village with several smoke houses and two fish merchants, namely Smith's and McKay's. Now only Smith's retain their premises in Sandend after McKay's relocated to Buckie. The fisherman's cottages located in the small harbour area are all built with their gable ends facing seaward which was typical of the area. Most of these are now used as holiday homes. With it's large sandy bay and caravan park Sandend has become a popular destination for holidaymakers. File 0440.
